Abstract

The aim of this value creation program is to develop five-axis heavy cutting CNC vertical hypoid gear generator with intelligent manufacturing/CPS systems integration technology, the research team includes scholars and engineers from ITRI, the leaders of each research department with ability to design or analysis of complete machine and components for more than 15 years’ experience. Key techniques such as double-roll duplex generating cutting method、vertical machine frame structure, intelligent CNC Machine, adaptive cutting force, hypoid gear generator CPS system will be developed and integrated, so that users can communicate directly with the external cloud computing systems.

    • Combined with the CCU bevel gear team’s advance theoretical basis and legal unit’s precision mechanical design experience that aided to design and integrate the sensors and actuators required for intelligent machine.
    • Cyber physical systems (CPS) for the hypoid gear generator will also be developed so that our product can easily exchange data with commercial cloud system to operate regional networking, real-time monitoring, big data analysis, and reliability diagnosis. Team Introduction

And the experienced CEO is for understanding customers’ needs in order to provide painstaking designs, stringent manufacturing procedures and holistic services. Meanwhile, the university-level internal evaluation committee will assist with assessing the price of intellectual property. And the external technical advisory committee will assist with providing suggestions regarding to technology research and development, patent and industrial analysis, business management, legal consultation and services.

Ching-Yuan Lin,principal investigator (PI):

    Ching-Yuang Lin CEO received his M.E. degree in Department of Power Engineering, National Tsing Hua University. He was the department Head of Mechanical and Mechatronics Systems Research Laboratories and the Special Assistant of Intelligent Machinery Technology Center at ITRI.  

De-Shin Liu, co-PI:

    Dr. De-Shin Liu received his Ph.D. degree in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Missouri-Rolla, MO, in 1989. From 1989 to 1991, he was a senior structural safety Project Engineer at General Motors Corporation, Warren, Michigan, USA. He served as the Division Head of the Solid Mechanics, Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan since 2016. He also served Director of Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-tech Innovations (AIM-HI) in National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan since 2016.

Zhang-Hua Fong, co-PI:

    Dr. Zhang-Hua Fong received his Ph.D. degree in Engineering Mechanics from National Chiao Tung University. From 2014 to 2015, he was the department Head of Engineering Technology Research and Development at MOST. He served as President of National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan since 2016.

Entry Barrier

For the technical aspects; spiral bevel gears and hypoid gears are the key components applied for intersecting and crossed axes during power transmissions. Most of the domestic gear manufacturers rely on import expensive foreign machines. However, those foreign machine may not provide enough data to link with the domestic cloud system and Internet of Things (IoT) system. The advantage of cloud computing and IoT software systems development in our contrary could not play the value-aided roles for precision machine industries. The aim of this value creation program is to develop five-axis heavy cutting CNC vertical hypoid gear generator with intelligent manufacturing/CPS systems integration technology, the research team includes scholars and engineers from ITRI, the leaders of each research department with ability to design or analysis of complete machine and components for more than 15 years’ experience. Key techniques such as double-roll duplex generating cutting method、vertical machine frame structure, intelligent CNC Machine, adaptive cutting force, hypoid gear generator CPS system will be developed and integrated, so that users can communicate directly with the external cloud computing systems. The machine is designed especially for AIM-HI’s latest gear software with completely different configuration, which is the key breakout highlight of the gear market.

Market Scope 

According to the report from Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association, the total export amount of metal cutting related machine in 2015 was about NTD 84.7 billion, and the gear-cutting machine was about 6.3%. The Gear-cutting machine import value was NTD 17 billion and export value was about NTD 5.4 billion in 2015. According to the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO) report, the total export volume of European machine tools was about 18.6 billion euros in 2015. If the gear-cutting machine is for 6% of the total calculation, the export value would be 1.2 billion euros. Taiwan’s mainly export gear-cutting machine is traditional non-CNC machine, and the mainly imports is CNC machine, which the machine price is about 25~40 million depends on the function and software provided. The expected price of our undergoing gear machine is about 40~60% less than the imported ones. By our cost-effective for the sales strategy, we expect to hit goal of 30% internal and 5% global market share within the next five years.
